For the animals of Australia, let us wrap our crafty love around them.

Hello fellow crafters,

I will be back soon to update you on my latest makes, but for now I am going to talk about something very important. All of us must surely know of the horrendous events currently happening in Australia. This is environmental damage which seems unbelievable in its scale, it’s hard to comprehend.

I am utterly devastated by seeing what is happening to the beautiful country of Australia and its unique wildlife. I can't bare it, the loss of life, mostly animals and humans is utterly heart-breaking. I’ve sobbed watching the news and I will never be able to forget the images I have seen. They have seared themselves into my consciousness.  It is now believed that some of the wildlife and plants will never recover, they are lost forever. This is beyond anything we could have ever imagined.

And yet the ignorance, and seemingly sheer evil, of those in power continues to support big fossil fuel companies. Anyone with an ounce of compassion, and common sense would take the drastic actions required to save our planet, over the love and greed of wealth.

As a person who loves the planet and cares about wildlife and the environment deeply, I struggle with how the planet is suffering and continuing to be abused, as if some people believe we have a second world to move to when this one is spent. We do not, and to be honest, it makes me so angry that I can’t always put it in to words. Humanity is the most destructive creature on the planet and yet, they feel themselves superior, above all other life, the most intelligent life on the Earth. The individual’s hell bent on destroying all that is precious on our world, do not come under that description, they don’t even come close.

Now, after getting that off my chest, back to the reason for this post. There may be many things we cannot do right now, but amidst the heartache and despair, this is something we can do.

Crafters I ask you to unite, to those who can knit, crochet and sew the animals of Australia need your help! I don’t know If you have seen it, but this is a post being circulated on facebook.

“Knitters of the World - Australia needs your help. Over 1 million hectares of land have been burning in 300 fires across NSW and Queensland. Much of this is critical Koala Habitat - a species that is now considered “functionally extinct”. Populations have been decimated and those who have survived are badly injured. It’s important to acknowledge that so many other animals have perished in these devastating fires. So too have people and hundreds of homes leaving families with nothing. Our hearts are heavy and so many of us are in a state of bewilderment and anger at the lack of political will to address the broader issues at play here. But that’s a conversation for another time and platform. Right now, we need to do what we can to make a difference where we can. There has been a call out for knitted, crocheted Joey pouches and sewn pouch liners for our beloved kangaroos, and other natives such as possums and wombats, to help in the treatment of burns. Email me for the patterns at hello@littledandelion.com. I have a fantastic PDF I can send you. No DMs please. I am happy to be the point of collection and you’ll find my postal address in my Bio information. Please show our global leaders what can be achieved when we act as a collective consciousness and show compassion and love for those in need. We are all one. We are all connected. Let’s be the light for those who have forgotten to see. Please share this post or tag the crafter in your life so that they can help spread the word. Our beautiful precious Aussie wildlife needs your love and care. Many thanks and much love, Jac”

You can also connect through facebook with Little Dandelion for the patterns to make what is needed.

As crafters Let’s us take action together and do what we can for the poor animals injured and needing desperate, tender loving care.  We often create things to make the world a beautiful place, now let’s use our talents to make it truly beautiful, in ways it really needs to be, to help those who need it. We all craft with love, whatever we make, now let’s us spread that love further than ever before. Let’s wrap these animals in our crafty love.

Thank you.
